TEHRAN (Tasnim) Pakistans Ministry of Water and Power is willing to extend a contract with Iran to import 74 megawatts (MW) of electricity from the country, informed sources said.The Pakistani Ministry is seeking the governments approval to extend contract with the Iranian company TAVANIR to import 74 MW of electricity to Balochistan Province in southwestern Pakistan, Business Recorder quoted informed sources as saying.
The sources said Pakistans Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR) on November 6, 2002, concluded a 30-year contract to import 32 MW of electricity at 3 cents per unit for an initial period of three years into Balochistan province.
The amount of electricity import from Iran was subsequently enhanced to 39 MW and then to 74 MW, the report said.
Iran currently exports electricity to Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan on a daily basis, and new projects are underway to boost the countrys power exports in future.
