Iranian desert of Shahdad: One of earth’s hottest spots
Gandom-e Beryan area in the Iranian desert of Shahdad is known to be one of the spots with the highest temperatures on the earth’s surface with a recorded heat of 67 degrees centigrade in summertime.
Gandom-e Beryan is the name of a hill with an area of 480 square kilometers, which is covered with blackened volcanic lava.

The hill has been introduced by the Iranian expert Professor Parviz Kordavani as the world’s hottest point, where temperature in the shade rises as high as 67 degrees centigrade in summertime. Though that proclamation is disputed, most scientists agree the desert can be ranked as one of the top hottest spots in the world.

Gandom-e Beryan or Rig-e Soukhteh (burnt stone) is located 80 km north of Shahdad city in Lut Desert.

Due to the lack of access roads, only experts with high-tech facilities and the locals who are familiar with desert routes have treaded the place.

Shahdad desert is located in the Iranian province of Kerman.
