Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos[/caption]17 August 2014, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos began her official two-day visit in Tehran.
Speaking at a press conference held at the United Nations Common Premises, Amos said It is a pleasure for me to be back in Iran for my second visit. I have had an important opportunity to discuss with Government partners ways in which we can strengthen our partnership to improve regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and also to discuss the major humanitarian crises in the region.
Speaking at a press conference held at the United Nations Common Premises, Amos said It is a pleasure for me to be back in Iran for my second visit.She added In my meeting with His Excellency Dr. Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Amir Abdollahian and other officials we discussed the humanitarian situations in Syria, in Iraq and in Gaza. UN Humanitarian Chief emphasized on the important role Iran can play in helping countries of the region to overcome humanitarian crises. In this regard, Amos said Iran has a very important role to play in helping us gain better access for humanitarian organizations in Syria and elsewhere. I look forward to working more closely with our Iranian partners to further improve the international humanitarian system, and to respond to crises now and in the future.
