Tehran, Aug 16, IRNA Head of Iran?s Academy of Science Reza Davari Ardakani in a statement on Saturday congratulated Prof. Maryam Mirzakhani on winning the Fields Medal known as ?the Nobel Prize of mathematics.?
In his message, Davari Ardakani said Iran takes pride in its scientists which shine in the world?s sky of science.
?Although your knowledge has yielded fruit at Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, its sapling has grown up in Iran.?
Ardakani said that Iranian universities and scientific centers should make efforts to quickly upgrade their level and prepare the ground for research and innovation inside the country so that the next generation of scientists can make great achievements in these centers.
Fields Medal is awarded every 4 years to between 2 and 4 young mathematicians who must be no older than 40.
Maryam Mirzakhani, 37, a professor of mathematics at Stanford University is the first woman ever to win the prize since it was established in 1936.
Mirzakhani is a graduate of Tehran?s Sharif University of Technology.
She was awarded the Fields Medal for her sophisticated and highly original contributions to the fields of geometry and dynamical systems.
