The presidential deputy for Women and Family Affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, says the Rohani administration does not approve of gender segregation in the workplace.
This comes after the head of Irans judiciary commended the mayor of Tehran for implementing a plan to separate male and female public employees in municipal offices.
The state news agency IRNA reported that on Wednesday August 6, Molaverdi criticized the move by Mayor Ghalibaf, saying: The gender segregation plan put forth by the Tehran Municipality is not supported by the president, and the 11th administration is against it.
She added that the plan is being implemented in defiance of the policies of the executive branch.
The Ministry of Labour has also condemned the move, saying it contravenes international conventions aimed at eliminating discrimination in the workplace, and the ministry has called on the city to revoke its plan.
