TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's semiofficial ISNA news agency is reporting that the policeman convicted of killing a blogger who died in custody in 2012 has been sentenced to three years in jail and another two in exile.
Blogger Sattar Beheshti was detained Oct. 30, 2012 for alleged cybercrimes. He died November 3 with "signs of wounds" on his body.
ISNA quoted Giti Pourfazel, a lawyer hired by Beheshti's mother, as saying Thursday that the appeals court had sentenced the policeman to three years in jail, two years in exile and 74 lashes. She said the sentence was too light considering the nature of the crime.
The 35-year-old Beheshti was not a well-known activist but his death in police custody attracted global attention.
