ARDEBIL, Aug. 03 (MNA) The governor of border city of Germi in northwestern province of Ardebil has said the wildfire raging in Azerbaijni side of the border has now been controlled.Mohammad Alaie told Irans state news agency IRNA on Sunday that since last night when the wildfire started to consume the dense forests of Azerbaijan near Iranian border village of Azadlou in Germi, the border patrol, police, IRGC local forces, municipality, Mourans county sheriff, the Red Crescent Society, and regional water and wastewater office were called to duty.
An emergency field meeting in the village which coordinated these forces proved effective in preventing wildfire progress to the Iranian side of the border, he said.
Robali Jahani, the head of Germi Natural Resources and Watershed Management office told IRNA that the office staff had worked for hours to control the fire progress to ranges in Iranian side.
Local villagers told IRNA that wildfire was seen to be started in dense forests of Azerbaijan near Germis Ababeiglou village. They reported also Azerbaijans border patrol cooperation in controlling the fire. They allowed firefighters to cross the border.
Germis governorate disaster management headquarters reported no damage to natural resources in the province.
