TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham called on the Egyptian government to open Rafah border crossing to the humanitarian aids destined for the Gaza Strip.
"We hope that the arrival of humanitarian aids of different countries to Gaza could alleviate the sufferings of the innocent people of this region who are facing tough living conditions, lack of medical supplies and human assistance," She said.

Afkham noted that the shipment "is waiting to receive permission to pass through Rafah border crossing".

On Tuesday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called on Egypt to reopen the Rafah border crossing to allow the supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza and transfer of the injured Palestinians to hospitals in the neighboring countries.

Larijani in separate meetings with his Turkish and Qatari counterparts Cemil Cicek and Mohamed bin Mubarak Al-Khulaifi urged Egypt to open its Rafah crossing to allow the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

"The Islamic states at the present juncture should do their best to supply the necessary needs of the people in Gaza, including medicine and other humanitarian needs, and allow treatment of those injured in the savage attacks of the Zionists," Larijani said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Larijani said Egypt has agreed to help Iran dispatch its humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"Today we received a message from Egypt at the end of the troika meeting declaring the Arab country's readiness to help Iran send humanitarian aid to Egypt," Larijani said on the sidelines of the PUIC troika meeting on Tuesday.

The Iranian speaker expressed the hope that Egypt's promise would meet action.

He noted that the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) will take practical measures to send medicine and foodstuff to Egypt and from there to the Gaza Strip via land.

The first consignment of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, including foodstuff and medical supplies, for the Gaza people was sent to Egypt following an order issued by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Israel has been pounding the blockaded Gaza for 17 consecutive days, killing at least 733 people and injuring more than 4,600 others.

According to the UN, 77% of the victims in Gaza are civilians and defenseless people.

Since July 8, Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes against Gaza.

On July 17, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated Gaza Strip.
