Young Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers win 2 medals

Young Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have snatched two medals, including one silver, at the 2014 Fdration Internationale des Luttes Associes (FILA) Cadet World Championships in Slovakia.
On Tuesday and day one of the competitions in the city of Snina, which is situated 382 kilometers (237 miles) east of the capital Bratislava, Mohammadreza Aghania was downed by his Georgian opponent Joni Khetsuriani 8-7 in the last encounter of mens 50-kg weight category and collected the silver medal.

He had earlier overcome his Italian opponent Giovanni Freni 7-3, Armenias Vahe Sargsyan 7-2, Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler Oleksandr Grushin 10-1, and Kazakh rival Alisher Tulegenov in his march to the final contest.

In the 58-kilogram category, Irans Keramat Abdevali won his third-place play-off against Armenian athlete Malkhas Amoyan to take home the bronze medal.

Earlier on Tuesday, Abdevali had overpowered Amantur Ismailov of Kyrgyzstan 10-2 by a technical fall in his first combat and later beat Georgias Giorgi Kurtanidze 3-2, before being defeated 11-10 in a stiff competition with Russian wrestler Arslan Zubairov in the semifinal round.

Abdevali later overcame Murad Allahverdiyev of Azerbaijan to qualify for the third-place play-off.

The 2014 FILA Cadet World Championships started in the Slovakian city of Snina on July 15, and will run until July 20.

Dozens of wrestlers from various countries, including Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, Greece, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Norway, Romania, Russia, Turkey, the United States and Uzbekistan, have taken part in the tournament.
