Suspicious forest fires give poachers cover

Suspicious forest fires give poachers cover
A number of suspicious fires have burned hundreds of acres of Irans Golestan National Park in recent days.
The last of these incidents occurred on Tuesday July 8 and affected more than 400 acres of Golestan National Parks forests.

Some reports indicate that the fires may have been deliberate. The head of Irans Environment and Wildlife Watch reports that when their rangers were fighting the flames, poachers were taking advantage of the situation and hunting some of the animals.

He told Mehr News Agency that in the home of one individual, they found the carcasses of two ibex and a chamois.

The difficult terrain in the area together with the heavy winds have been serious obstacles to putting out the fires at Golestan National Park.
