The US government is under pressure from the most powerful pro-Israel lobby group to adopt tough approaches vis--vis Irans nuclear issue, an analyst tells Press TV in an interview.Alison Weir said on Wednesday that US President Barack Obama still has to play to the Israel lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which expects the US to talk about the alleged threat of an Iranian nuclear weapon.
Israels lobby is still powerful and Obama still thinks he has to make statements such as we have undying ties to Israel, that these will never change, she said.
In his address to AIPAC in Washington on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on world powers to ratchet up diplomatic pressure on Iran over its peaceful nuclear energy program.
Netanyahu said world powers should reverse their easing of sanctions following a deal with Iran.
Weir ruled out the possibility of the Israeli regimes military action against Iran, saying, I dont think Israel really is in a position or wants to take direct military action itself. Its too close to Iran, Iran has some power.
Fortunately the Israeli lobby is slightly dividing now, said the analyst.
Iran has repeatedly emphasized that its nuclear energy program is meant for civilian purposes.
Israels allegations against Iran come as the Tel Aviv regime, which is widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East, reportedly maintains between 200 and 400 atomic warheads.
Furthermore, the Israeli regime has never allowed any inspections of its nuclear facilities and continues to defy international calls to join the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
