‘Israel anti-Iran stance losing support in US’

The new call by a notorious American congresswoman for a military strike against Iran shows Israel’s anti-Iran stance is losing real political support in the US, a political analyst tells Press TV.
In a Friday interview, Gordon Duff, a senior editor of Veterans Today, slammed the recent remarks by Republican member of the US House of Representatives Michele Bachmann who recently said Iran’s nuclear facilities “must be bombed” despite a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the Sextet of world powers.
“To most of the American people, she (Bachmann) is known as a lunatic. She is a political extremist and what we have learned from this essentially is that Israel has reached the bottom of the barrel as far as political backing the United States. They have turned to Michele Bachmann, someone who is serving their last term in Congress,” Duff said.
Despite Israel’s staunch opposition, Iran and six major world powers sealed an interim deal in Geneva on November 24 to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.

Over the past decade, Israel, which is known as the sole possessor of a nuclear arsenal in the Middle East, has launched a wide lobbying campaign aimed at escalating international pressure against Iran over its nuclear energy program and has repeatedly threatened to take unilateral military action against the country.

Duff pointed to the extensive support by the US public for the new nuclear agreement with Iran and noted that the Americans look forward to “frankly redressing the problems that we caused Iran” in the past and resume business with Iranians.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Tuesday that Americans back the nuclear deal with Iran by a 2-to-1 margin

The results suggest 44 percent of Americans support the interim deal while only 22 percent oppose it.
