Sputnik- Moscows efforts in bringing together Tehran and Ankara to settle the civil war in Syria will bring positive implications by easing tensions between Turkey and Syrian Kurds, Samir Aita, a member of the Syrian Democratic Forum opposition party, told Sputnik on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) On Tuesday, the foreign and defense ministers ofRussia, Iran and Turkey met inMoscow todiscuss the situation inSyria, agreeing torevive the political process toend the conflict inSyria. "The fact that Russia brings Iran and Turkey tocommit onpeace will have positive implications onthe Kurdish issue, especially toease the tensions betweenTurkey and the YPG [The People's Protection Units], and more generally the Syrian Kurds," Aita said.
He added that he expected Moscows efforts toencourage inclusion ofthe Syrian Kurds inforthcoming meetings betweenthe conflicting parties inSyria.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed ina phone call the possibility ofa meeting betweenthe Syrian conflicting parties inAstana. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev supported this initiative and expressed readiness toprovide a platform forsuch talks. On Monday, UN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura said he intended toconvene negotiations betweenthe Syrian government and opposition inGeneva onFebruary 8.
