A political analyst believes that the United States is seeking to block potential cooperation between Iran and Russia in fight against Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Syria.

Eric Draitser made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Saturday when asked about remarks by US Secretary of State John Kerry who said he saw an opportunity for progress towards ending crisis in Syria as he met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly on the same day.

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman also said Friday that Kerry and Zarif would discuss the same issue.

�When you see John Kerry in the US State Department starts making news towards having a dialogue with the Iranians, it�s not simply because they want to develop a friendship, although I guess to some degree that�s true, what they really want to do, is that they want to present a block to a potential Iranian-Russian partnership in all of these conflicts� in the region, Draitser said.

He added that �the United States is now being forced to include both Iran and Russia in a political process because of Russia�s now clear military aid and support to the government of President Assad in Syria and because Russia and Iran have begun to develop� cooperation in fight against the Daesh militants in Syria.

The US officials now �understand quite obviously the importance of Iran politically, diplomatically and economically and then of course militarily in the fight against terrorism in the region,� he noted.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. According to reports, the United States and its regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey - have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria since the beginning of the crisis.

Russia has reportedly stationed four jets in addition to some T-90 tanks at an airfield near Latakia, Syria. Moscow has increased the number of its military flights to the same airfield in a move to fight the Daesh terrorist group.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Draitser said �the issue of the transfer of S-300 missile which has been on the backburner for a number of years that has really I think frightened much of the political establishment in Washington DC that if they don�t seize the opportunity presented by the deal with Iran regarding the nuclear program, if they don�t seize that opportunity into that politically diplomatic void, Russia will immediately rush in and will pull Iran further into the non-western orbit namely into the orbit of the Shanghai cooperation organization, particularly Russia and China.�
