Former US presidential candidate Mitt Romneys criticism of President Barack Obama for sending a secret letter to Iran is partisan attacks, a journalist says.Edward Corrigan said in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday that while ISIL is a very serious destabilizing threat to the entire region, Romney was trying to scare the population from Iran.
Corrigan made the remarks after Romney criticized Obama for sending the letter to Iran over fighting ISIL.
Romney said he was stunned and speechless by the presidents letter to a nation that he accused of violating international norms and threatening the world.
Mid Romney is resorting to, I guess, more partisan attacks when in fact people should be working together and trying to be rational and reasonable and trying to contain what is everybody recognizes as a very serious threat, Corrigan said.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Obama sent a letter to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei last month about possible cooperation in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group.
The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, now control large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria.
US warplanes have been conducting airstrikes against the group in Iraq since early August. Some Western states have also participated in some of the strikes in Iraq.
Since late September, the US and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.
