Senior lawmaker upbeat about expanding ties between Iran, Kuwait
TEHRAN (FNA)- Senior Iranian parliamentary officials expressed pleasure in the growing trend of the relations between Tehran and Kuwait City, and said the upcoming visit to Tehran by Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Saba would deepen the two states' bilateral ties.
"Relations between Iran and Kuwait are expanding on a daily basis in different dimensions and we have always had good and progressive ties with Kuwait, while the Kuwaitis have always laid emphasis on the development of relations with Iran," Head of Iran-Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group Javad Sa'dounzadeh told FNA on Saturday.

He referred to the upcoming visit by Kuwaiti Emir to Iran, and said, "At the present sensitive juncture that the Middle-East is experiencing extensive and overall changes, we hope that the visit will be the start of a new page in the relations between Tehran and Kuwait."

Elsewhere, Sa'dounzadeh stressed the good parliamentary relations between the two countries, and expressed the hope that the grounds would be prepared for a visit to Kuwait City by the Iran-Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group this Summer.

In relevant remarks on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javd Zarif underscored that the upcoming visit to Tehran by Kuwaiti will be of paramount importance.

Zarif said that the visit would open a new chapter in bilateral ties between Iran and Kuwait and would pave the way for the further expansion of relations and cooperation between the two countries.

He made the remarks in a meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Sabah al-Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah on the sidelines of the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Conference in Algeria.

During the meeting, the two ministers also exchanged views on various issues, including the promotion of mutual relations and cooperation as well as regional and global developments.

The Kuwaiti emir plans to pay an official visit to the Iranian capital early in June to pave the ground for the further expansion of the bilateral relations between the two Muslim Persian Gulf states.

This will be the first Tehran visit by Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad as Emir of Kuwait.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, who came to power on January 29, 2006, was officially invited by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Iran and Kuwait have sought to expand bilateral ties through exchanging several high-ranking delegations in the last few years.
