The Iran Project : The director general of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) for Transit & Logistics Affairs said the International North-South Transport Corridor is the pivot for realizing the objectives of Iran's sea-based economy.

According to The Iran Project,Khosro Saraei pointed to the special emphasis of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the sea-based economy and added that the high capacities of the corridor and its key role in facilitating regional and international trade will be assessed specifically in a conference on “Iran’s Sea-Based Economy” slated to be held on February 12-13, 2024.

Iran has an extraordinary international opportunity due to its special and privileged geographical location between two seas, he emphasized.

He went on to say that the INSTC will play a leading role in increasing the efficiency of mixed and intermodal transportation in the regional and extra-regional arenas.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the official referred to the special emphasis laid by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the development of a sea-based economy and called on responsible organizations to pave the way for increasing both domestic and foreign investments in line with the realization of the sea-based economy objectives.

Pointing to the rail and road transportation capacities in the country for the materialization of those objectives, he added, “With the studies conducted in this regard, the Chabahar Port is considered as a new gateway for the development of multifaceted services in the International North-south Transport Corridor.”
