IRNA � Austrian president has demanded the European Union to counter US President Donald Trump, especially regarding Iran Deal.

'Europeans mustn�t dance to Trump's every tune,' said Alexander Van der Bellen told Die Welt German magazinein an interview which was published on Monday, adding that the EU should have 'stronger stances' against Trump.

Noting that the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) without a reason, Van der Bellen said that the US threatened European companies with hefty sanctions if they had trade with Iran.

He said that such conduct of the US is an instance of 'excessive demand', which Europe should counter.

Following Trump's withdrawal the internationally accepted pact, Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz issued a statement to express regret over act and said Vienna was determined to deepen ties with Tehran and fight sanctions on Iran.

He also stressed that Europeans would do anything in their power to save the nuclear deal as long as Tehran was in compliance with it.

The JCPOA, more popularly known as Iran nuclear deal, is an agreement signed by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany and Iran to settle an international issue that was going on for more than two decades.

The pact was signed in January 2015; Iran agreed to limit its uranium enrichment in return for the removal of sanctions imposed on it by the UNSC, the US and the EU.

In his presidential campaign, Donald Trump slammed the US government for signing the agreement and called it 'the word deal.'

Though the pact was welcomed by the international community and indorsed by the UNSC, Trump withdrew his country from the deal on March 8, 2017. So far the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed Iran's compliance with the deal 14 times.

Following the US' move, many world leaders criticized the US for for its decision and EU announced that they would devise a new mechanism to help Iranian and European companied to continue economic ties. On January 31, they finally proposed INSTEX that facilitated trade with Iran.
