MNA Iran in an address to the OPCW 4th Review Conference has condemned the US destructive polices in violation of all international agreements, saying Washington is not fit to object to the decisions of OPCW member states.
Member states of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) failed to agree on a final document at the 4th Review Conference held in The Hague on Nov. 21-30.
Director General of the Department of International Peace and Security of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Reza Najafi, in an address to the Conference, rejected the USs baseless accusations, censured the countrys adverse role in the failure of reaching consensus on a final document, and slammed the US as the biggest user of weapons of mass destruction and violator of international agreements.
Politicizing the activities of the OPCW in the special session and the self-serving approach in interpreting the Conventions regulations have created a dangerous rift in the structure of the Organization that may lead to its collapse, said Najafi.
He went on to add, the United States, as the user of the most number of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons, and as a supporter to other users of such weapons, particularity the Saddam regime and terrorist groups, is not fit to pass judgment on the measures of other member states.
Given the failure of this Conference, the most important issue right now is the future of the OPCW, stressed Njafi. Iran, as the biggest victim of chemical weapons, condemns the use of these weapons by anyone, anywhere and under any circumstances, and will be committed to the spirit of the Convention and will spare no efforts in building a world free of chemical weapons.
Najafi further stressed that Iran is ready to have constructive cooperation with other member states which sincerely believe in multilateral and cooperation.
