Iran proposes to set up IMO technical cooperation offices in West Asia

FNA - The Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran (PMOI) announced preparedness to open technical cooperation offices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in West Asia.

Managing Director of Iran Ports and Navigation Organization Mohammad Rastad made the remarks, addressing the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin, Poland.


He also lauded IMO plans to decrease greenhouses gases as well as sulfur made by vessels.


Meantime, Rastad held talks with IMP Secretary General Kitack Lim, ministers and heads of maritime organizations of China, Singapore, South Korea, Portugal and Poland on the sidelines of the meeting.


The event was held with the participation of over 40 IMO member states on June 13-15.


IMOis an international governing body of the maritime industry.


It is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for measures to improve the safety and security of international shipping and to prevent marine pollution from ships.
