Iran, Turkmenistan issue joint statement, call for enhancing ties

IRNA - Tehran and Ashgabat issued a joint statement on Tuesday in a bid to broaden mutual cooperation in different fields.


The joint statement was signed between Iran and Turkmenistan after President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow met in Ashgabat and the two countries signed 13 cooperation pacts to expand their relations in different fields.

'The Iranian and Turkmen presidents have reiterated on the need to develop bilateral relations in the areas of mutual interest by taking into consideration the strategic level of mutual cooperation,' part of the joint statement said.

President Rouhani said on Tuesday that friendship, good neighborliness and brotherly relations with Turkmenistan is of special significance for Iran.

President Rouhani, who is in Ashgabat for a two-day visit, made the remarks during a joint meeting of high-ranking Iranian and Turkmen delegations.

Referring to Tehran-Ashqabat cooperation on different parts, particularly energy, transit and transportation, the president said that the beginning of the executive operation of the third line of electricity transfer from Tehran to Turkmenistan, new cooperation on Caspian Sea oil and gas and rendering facilities to boost transportation between the two countries can serve as a new step to help economic relations between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Iranian road constructing companies are ready to carry out projects in Turkmenistan, President Rouhani said, adding that with the removal of some problems about providing spare parts, Iran will soon be exporting buses to Turkmenistan.
