Iran Embassy in Afghanistan says it has received no confirmation about reports that Iranian border guards have allegedly killed Afghans trying to illegally enter the Islamic Republic.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Iranian Embassy in Kabul said if such reports were true, they underlined the importance of controlling the borders to prevent illegal entries and similar incidents.

Rumors have been circulating about some 10 Afghan immigrants being killed by Iranian border guards while trying to illegally enter the Islamic Republic from the Afghanistans western province of Herat.

Iran border officials have frequently stated that it is difficult to distinguish between smugglers and illegal immigrants trying to cross the border in the country at night, added the statement.

According to the statement, more than 5,000 Iranian border guards have so far lost their lives while trying to prevent smugglers from entering the country.

The Islamic Republic once again asks Afghan officials to carefully monitor border regions and ensure the legal entry of their nationals into Iran, the statement added.

The statement concluded by saying that Tehran is ready to hold talks with Kabul in an effort to legalize the presence of jobless Afghans in Iran and to find a solution to deal with the issue of unemployment in the war-torn country.
