MNA The director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation says that cooperation with Iran and Libya is not at odds with UN resolutions.
Russia's defense industry cooperation withIran and Libya does not contradict the UN Security Council resolutions, Dmitry Shugaev, the director ofthe Federal Service forMilitary-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told the Kommersant newspaper.
"We are strictly adhering toall international commitments we have undertaken. We have documents adopted bythe United Nations and all subsequent decrees ofthe country [Russia's] leadership. This concerns both Libya and Iran," Shugaev said, asquoted inthe newspaper.
The FSMTC director added that Russia and Iran were discussing the maintenance ofprevious deliveries, which was well withinthe international legal framework.
Russia and Iran signed a contract fordeliveries ofS-300 missile systemsin2007, however, its implementation was suspended in2010 when the UNSC adopted a resolution, which forbade tosupply Iran withadvanced military equipment, including missile systems.
The restriction was lifted and deliveries resumed afterIran reached an agreement withChina, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, collectively referred toasthe P5+1 group, in2015. Tehran pledged tokeep its nuclear program peaceful inexchange forgradual lifting ofsanctions.
Russia completed deliveries ofS-300 systems toIran last year.
