MNA Abu Ali Basri, the head of the intelligence and counterterrorism department of the Iraqi Interior Ministry, stated that Abu Bakr Baghdadi, the leader of the ISIL terror group, is likely to be alive and he is hiding nearly Syria's Raqqa.
Abu Bakr Baghdadi, the leader ofthe Daesh terror group (outlawed inRussia), is likely tobe alive and is currently hiding onthe outskirts ofthe Syrian city ofRaqqa, Abu Ali Basri, the head ofthe intelligence and counterterrorism department ofthe Iraqi Interior Ministry, said Sunday.
He is hiding inSyria, tobe precise outsideRaqqa, Basri said, asquoted bythe Al Arabiya broadcaster.
Basri pointed outthat the Iraqi security services are interested inpersecution ofBaghdadi and his followers more thananyone else.
On Tuesday, the Al Sumaria News broadcaster claimed that the Daesh issued a statement confirming Baghdadi's death.
On June 16, the Russian Defense Ministry said Baghdadi was likely tobe eliminated asa result ofa Russian Aerospace Forces strike ona militant command post inthe southern suburb ofthe city ofRaqqa inlate May. It noted that it was inthe process ofconfirming the information throughvarious channels.
