FNA- Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Deputy Commander for political affairs Brigadier General Rasul Sanayee Rad stressed Iran's deterrent power, and warned that any possible war between Tehran and Washington will inflict heavy damage on Washington.
"The IRGC has taken long strides to establish security and today we are enjoying deterrence, meaning that we have dissuaded the enemy from attack," General Sanayee Rad said in an interview with the state-run TV on Friday night.
He referred to the detention of the US naval forces by the IRGC Navy in the Persian Gulf on January 12, 2016, and said they didnt show any resistance and surrendered to the IRGC forces despite being equipped with an advanced boat and weapons.
Noting that the US officer commanding the boat's crew demanded for a medal from Pentagon after being released and returning to his country, General Sanayee Rad said, "The US officer knew that any war between Iran and the US would incur lots of costs on the US and he was happy for preventing the harms and damage which would be imposed (on the US) as the result of a possible war."
His remarks came after Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan warned of the US and Israel's threats to the region, but meantime, stressed his country's high deterrence power and preparedness to defend itself.
"We dont consider the regional countries as a threat, and the main threats are the US and the Zionist regime and we are preparing ourselves in conjunction with these threats. Of course, today we are enjoying a (high) level of deterrence," General Dehqan said in an interview with the state TV earlier this month.
Noting that the Islamic Republic has not recognized Israel's existence and legitimacy and considers the regime as a source of insecurity in the region, he said, "Israel today is confined to the occupied territories and doesnt dare to act against its neighbors."
General Dehqan also warned of the threat posed by the Takfiri terrorists which have been created by the US, Israel and certain Persian Gulf littoral states, headed by Saudi Arabia, and warned that they are a threat to the global security and their supporters will one day regret their deeds.
