Russia ready to move toward constructive dialogue with US - Foreign minister

Sputnik- Foreign Minister said that Russia is ready to transform its dialogue with the United States toward a more constructive path.


MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russia is ready totransform its dialogue withthe United States towarda more constructive path, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday.


"Russia is ready todo its part ofthe work torechannel dialogue withWashington towarda constructive channel, primarily inorder tofind effective responses tothe challenges ofterrorism," Lavrov said atan opening ceremony forpolitical consultations amongmembers ofthe Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).


Since 2014, relations betweenRussia and the United States deteriorated amidthe crisis inUkraine, and Washington aswell asBrussels and their allies have introduced several rounds ofanti-Russia sanctions overMoscow's alleged involvement inthe Ukrainian conflict.

On Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev characterized the souring ofRussian-US ties asthe worst foreign policy mistake made bythe administration ofoutgoing US President Barack Obama.

At the same time, duringthe election campaign US President-elect Donald Trump pointed outthat incase ofhis victory US-Russian elections could be improved. On January 15, Trump said inan interview withThe Times and Bild media outlets that US sanctions againstRussia could be lifted inexchange fora bilateral agreement onthe reduction ofnuclear weapons.
