Sputnik- Iran is interested in the purchase of a wide range of Russian weapons and Moscow is ready to develop military and technical cooperation with Tehran, the Russian Foreign Ministrys director of the Second Asian Department said.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) In October, Iranian Ambassador toRussia Mehdi Sanaei told Sputnik inan interview that Tehran was looking forways tobroaden the scope ofdefense cooperation withMoscow, even inareas that require coordination withthe UN Security Council (UNSC) and need a resolution.
"It is true that the Iranians have a wide range ofmilitary-purpose products they would liketo purchase inRussia. Naturally, some ofthese products tanks and fighter jets are covered bythe UNSC sanctions, because there is a moratorium. It means that if we sign an agreement onthe delivery ofsuch products, we have toapply forthe UNSC permission inthe next five, or rather, the next four years and receive such permission," Zamir Kabulov told RIA Novosti, commenting Sanaei's statement.
He added that Moscow was ready towork withIran inthe area ofmilitary and technical cooperation. "There are other goods fromthe sphere ofmilitary and technical cooperation that are not subject [to the UNSC decisions]. There are no problems, buthere we should act viathe UNSC mechanism, unfortunately," the diplomat said. Russia-Delivered S-300 Systems toEnter Combat Duty inIran byYear-End All S-300 air defense systems supplied toIran byRussia will enter combat duty bythe end ofthe year, Kabulov added. "The supplies ofS-300 systems toIran have been halted because ofsanctions. They are now completed, and bythe end ofthe year all the systems that we have delivered will enter combat duty," Ozerov told reporters ona visit toIran.
