Russia ready to buy heavy water from Iran

Russia is ready to buy heavy water from Iran to help Tehran meet commitments under comprehensive nuclear agreements with world powers, Alexey Karpov, Russia's deputy permanent envoy to international organizations in Vienna said Tuesday.

VIENNA (Sputnik) According toKarpov, Tehran does not have surplus heavy water stores atpresent, maintaining the agreed 130 metric tons limit.

"We are ready toassist Iran inthis area throughpurchases ofof necessary amounts ofthis material, although this issue has not been discussed indetail so far," Karpov said.

Under the terms ofthe nuclear agreement, Iran must keep its stock ofheavy water below130 tons and later under90 tons.

Iran and six world powers, including the United States and Russia, signed the JCPOA agreement whereby Tehran agreed todismantle aspects ofits nuclear program toensure it is used forpeaceful purposes inexchange forsanctions relief.
