Iran Volleyball defeats Australia in straight set at Olympics Qualifier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran beat Australia 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) on day 1 of the Mens World Olympic Qualification Tournament for Rio 2016 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.





Iran captain Saeid Marouf worked his magic by setting up Amir Ghafour and his other hitters to dominate their rivals in the straight-set clash.

Marouf dished out 27 excellent sets for Ghafour to tally 19 markers. Adel Gholami and Mojtaba Mirzajanpour contributed 10 points each to the Iranian victory, while Samuel Walker top scored for Australia with eight points.

Iran is scheduled to face Canada on Sunday.

Eight strong teams are competing for the Mens Olympic Qualification Tournament from May 28 to June 5 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The qualification tournament in Tokyo, which also serves as the Asian qualification tournament, will provide the top ranked Asian team and the top three ranked teams with the four Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualification slots available.
