Researchers at the Hormozgan Science and Technology Park in Tehran designed and built a test model of a portable bed - or a so called "quiet room" - which isolates a person from the outside world and prevents sound from penetrating the lounge.
According tothe project director, Mohammad Ali Mirzaei, noise pollution can cause mental illness and affect the physical well-being ofa person.
"As result ofthese findings, we came tothe idea ofcreating a place forrecreation, which would contribute tohuman isolation fromthe outsideworld and prevent the occurrence ofthese diseases," he said, cited bythenews agency Mehr.
The expert claimed that there is a very high level ofnoise inmany Iranian provinces, butso far the problem ofits impact onthe human body has been given too little attention. The new portable bed has been designed toprevent human diseases asa result ofthe impact ofurban noise. According tothe expert, the bed can reflect upto 50 decibels ofsound.
Mirzaei believes that such beds could be used inhospitals and areas withhigh levels ofnoise such ashostels or inthe homes ofordinary people. The price ofthis innovation, according topreliminary estimates, will reach 5 million Iranian tomans (about 1,650 US dollars), butis expected togradually decrease afterthe start ofmass production.
