Venezuela says 6 OPEC, non-OPEC countries agree on emergency meeting

TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (Shana) Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio del Pino said six crude oil producing countries have agreed on convention of a joint emergency meeting between OPEC and non-OPEC member states.

Following consultations with Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh here on Wednesday, he told reporters that his on-going visit to Tehran has been planned to drum up support for the emergency meeting.

"Iran has agreed to take part in the meeting and Russia has already announced its agreement," del Pino said.

"Iran is the first OPEC country which I visited to hold talks. Earlier, I visited Russia which is not an OPEC member."

The Venezuelan minister said that current crude oil prices are very low and that a balance between production and stability in the market is needed.

Saying that his negotiations follow up the objective of restoring stability to the global oil markets, del Pino urged other OPEC members to take up their historical responsibility in this regard.

He welcomed removal of sanctions against Iran and hoped that in the post-sanctions era, Tehran and Caracas will continue the cooperation they used to have under the sanctions.

The Venezuelan minister departs for Doha after his consultations in Tehran.
