A high-ranking Iranian military commander has lauded the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for its cybernetics capabilities and stated that Iran is now one of the major cyber powers of the world.
Speaking in Arak in central Iran on Saturday, Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Sepehr said the IRGC has managed to access state-of-the-art technology, despite all the pressure and sanctions imposed on Iran, particularly in the defense sector.
The IRGC has made outstanding achievements and has become a thorn in the enemies side, he noted.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, given its effective deterrence capabilities, is fully surveilling US and Israeli interests in the region, Sepehr said.
On December 5, 2012, the IRGC issued a statement announcing that it had fully extracted the data of a US ScanEagle drone captured over the Persian Gulf after it intruded into Iranian airspace.
Yes, we have fully extracted the drones data, the IRGC Public Relations Department statement added.
The ScanEagle drone is a long-endurance aircraft, built by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing.
