Vienna, Sept 22, IRAN - IAEA Deputy Director General and head of Department of Safeguards, Tero Varjoranta said on Tuesday that the environmental samples taken from Parchin military site are in line with the IAEA Safeguards Agreement.
Speaking to reporters and after releasing the statement by IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano, he said that the member states are allowed to carry out some of the duties of Safeguards under special circumstances and IAEA is always watchful that the measures would not weaken IAEA status.
Taking environmental samples is very complicated procedure which all should be fully observed, he said.
Varjoranta made clear that any halt in procedure will require the agency to retake environmental samples again, so the processing phase will go ahead immediately.
IAEA is quite confident that sampling procedures in Iran were in line with IAEA Safeguards, Varjoranta said.
