Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA � President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that success in nuclear talks is the outcome of defensive strength and diplomacy.

He made the remarks in a meeting with commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guardian Corps (IRGC).

President Rouhani recalled late Imam's statement that the highest duty is to protect Islamic Republic sovereignty which is not separate from Islamic Revolution.

'Today, we may claim to have reached one hundred percent political independence, but in the fields of science and economy, although we reached independence, for its consolidation we should take more steps,' the president said.

He added that situation is gone when a foreign power could have taken decision for Iran.

'We do not permit such situation to be repeated again, but independence has other dimensions as well.

'Full independent means that in the world scene we can defend our rights, and interests.

'The real independent means that in our own region we can be an effective player and to be able to support our interests, our friends and other Muslim interests.'

He derided the political group advocating the sanctions must remain in place, saying that the government does not need to reach settlement with the western governments.

'If we face hurdles in selling our own oil in world markets, it is contradictory with full independence,' President Rouhani said.
