TEHRAN, Feb. 01 (MNA) � Iran started building the second pipeline to transport its gas to neighboring Iraq.
The second pipeline, which passes through Basra and Baghdad, will lead to a rise in Iran's gas export capacity to Iraq within next 2 years,�Iran's IRNA state news agency reported.


The construction process of the first pipeline which goes to Baghdad is almost complete and will start work to transport gas to Iraq by May, 2015.


As scheduled, the project will export about 4 million cubic meters of gas to Baghdad on a daily basis. The figure will gradually increase to 25 million cubic meters a day.


Director of International Relations of National Iranian Gas Company Azizollah Ramezani announced that about 7 kilometers of the pipeline is still under construction inside the Iraqi soil and will be complete soon.


The second pipeline carrying Iranian gas to Iraq via Basra will have a capacity of transferring 35 million cubic meters per day.


According to the officials of National Iranian Oil Company, the two pipelines together have the capacity to increase Iran's gas exports to Iraq to 70 million cubic meters a day.
