Berlin, Sep 11, IRNA -- German exports to Iran rose substantially during the first six months of this year, according to figures released Thursday by the European Union statistical office and the German-Iranian Chamber of Commerce.
Germany exported more than 1,244 billion Euros to Iran during the first half of this year, up nearly 35 percent from the corresponding period in 2013.
German exports to Iran are slowly reaching the pre-sanction level of 2011 when some 1,501 billion Euros worth of German goods were exported to the Islamic Republic during the first six months of that year.

Meanwhile, Germany heads also the list of EU exports to Iran, as a total of 2.99 billion Euros of goods were exported by the 27 EU states during the first two quarters of 2014, up 10.5 percent from the previous year.

The ongoing upward trend in German-Iranian trade follows earlier comments by a leading German trade official who voiced 'excitement' over business prospects with Iran once a nuclear deal has been reached and the sanctions against Tehran are lifted.

The chairman of the Berlin-based German Near and Middle East Association (Numov), Rainer Seele pointed to 'exciting prospects' for German companies in Iran.

German firms have traditionally enjoyed an excellent reputation in Iran and Germany had been Iran's number one trading partner for a long time, he added.

German companies have been pressing the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel to step up its efforts to help promote trade relations with Iran as western sanctions over Tehran's nuclear program are being gradually lifted.

They have lashed out at the inaction of Merkel in pushing ahead for closer business ties with Iran as other western companies were flocking to Tehran in the wake of the landmark November 24 Geneva nuclear accord.
