Govt. to launch promotion of Irans hand-woven carpet

TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (MNA) Irans minister of trade, industry and mine has criticized the general disinterest in advertising Irans hand-made carpet in international media.

Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, who was speaking in the 23rdIrans Hand-Woven Carpet Exhibition today in Tehran, said that the design of Persian hand-woven carpets enjoyed worldwide acclaim. The Persian carpet carries over a special culture and prestige unique to itself which needs promotion and recognition worldwide, added the minister.


Nematzadeh believed that innovation and creativity should not be at the expense of carpets originality of style. Other countries supply their carpets under the name of Iran in international markets, so that they exploit prestige and respect lavished upon the Persian hand-woven carpets. We should perpetuate this status of being exemplary model for others, said the minister, and that the government supports promotion of Persian hand-woven carpets on foreign TVs, especially in Europe, and seeks to find proper venues for that.


Nematzadeh lamented the poor promotional status of Persian carpet industry in internationally acclaimed televisions which feed large multitudes of viewers across the globe, the smallest of products enjoy wide publicity in TV ads, he said.


He emphasized that wide promotional campaigns should be launched for Persian hand-woven carpets.


Hamid Karegar, the head of National Iranian Carpet Center said that in recent months, Persian carpet exports have improved in terms of weight and value, and we work to bring a boom to exports by the end of the current year (March 21 2015).


The Exhibition sought to bring together a group of businessmen and suppliers of Persian carpets in world markets, he added.


The 4thNational Festival of Best Persian Carpets is held in the sidelines of the exhibition which displays great diversity of design in Persian carpets, said he, calling the US to eliminate sanctions on carpet sales to US so that the American citizens would enjoy Persian carpets.
