Tehran, July 12, IRNA Iran has plans to slash reliance on imported wheat over the next four years, Deputy Agricultural Jihad Minister Abbas Keshavarz said on Saturday.
It is estimated that by the end of term of the current government, the country will be importing only five to 10 percent of its needs for wheat, Keshavarz said.
He put Iran?s annual wheat consumption at around 11 million tons, saying the country is expected to produce nearly 10 million tons of wheat this year, up by 10-12 percent compared to last year.
