Ambiguities in AMIA case: Nisman mystery, biased judiciary and widespread killings

Tehran, Feb 2, The Iran ProjectAMIA (The Argentina Israeli Mutual Association) bombing has been the beginning of a nearly 20-year story between Iran and Argentina, an incident whichoccurred in Bueneos Aires on July 18, 1994, killing 85 and injuring over 300.

Since then, unlike Iran's strong denial of any involvement behind the attack, it has been introduced as the main suspects of the attack by Argentina's officials, the US and Israel governments. Since October 2005 when the accusation of direct bombing was formally announced by the Argentina prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, a large amount of evidence have had been propagated and published in Western media to make an extremely strong emphasis on Iran's responsibility in bombing of the Jewish center back in 1994. Yet, a quick glance at the criminal years- long investigation highlights a number of ambiguities surrounding the case. There is no doubt that if the Argentina government truly intends to bring the perpetrators to justice, this will be realized only through an independent and impartial judiciary procedure in which no foreign hand, willing to cause deviation in the procedure, is involved. However, the following apparently marginalized questions and doubts seem to be contradictory to an unbiased judicial investigation and procedure:

Iran-Argentina nuclear ties

In 2006, the Argentina prosecution made a claim that Argentina has been the target by Iran after its decision to suspect the nuclear technology transfer contract to Tehran in 1992.[1] However this claim has been disputed since the contract was never actually terminated and both countries were negotiating on restoration of the deal from 1992 until 1994 when then AMIA incidence occurred.[2] Although such assertion has been proved to be baseless, the Western media still insists to introduce it as a ground on which Iran invaded AMIA center.[3] Would it be a reason to infer that the Western media are making propaganda to manipulate the criminal investigation and procedure in order to achieve what they have intended to? Lately, the Media propaganda has been dramatically heighten after the Nisman's mysterious death on January 18, 2015 at his home, a death which has been the issue of many debates and speculations.

Foreign hand in AMIA probe

In aftermath of the wikileaks releasing of the significant documents, Nisman's close ties to the United States was revealed. In number of the leaked cables, the US embassy officials in Bueneos Aires reported several of meeting held with Nisman about the AMIA case.[4] According to the cables, during the meetings, the US officials pressed Nisman to mainly focus on Iranian lead and thereby to discourage him from following the accusation against the Argentina former president, Carlos Menem and the former judge Jose Galeano and some other internal connections for their alleged cover-up of investigation.[5] To take such evidence into account and to bear in mind the fact that US is directly involving in the investigation, how Argentina's judiciary system may convince the public opinion, either inside or outside the country, that the judicial procedure of AMIA case is independent and impartial?

Israeli criminals

On 2014, former Israeli ambassador to Argentina, Itzhak Aviran, in an interview with the local Jewish News Agency stated that Israel killed most of those who perpetrated two attacks against the Jewish targets in Argentina in 1992 and 1994. "The vast majority of those responsible are no longer of this world, and we did those ourselves".[6] Although later on Israel made an official statement and pointed out that Mr. Aviran's remarks are totally disconnected from reality, it leaves few questions unanswered.[7] Did really Israel, unlike its statement to cooperate in full transparency with Argentina to investigate the case, arbitrary punish the perpetrator of the attacks, as it did for many years?
