TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh announced that Phase 12 of the South Pars gas field will begin production of natural gas in coming months.
Phase 12, the biggest phase of the South Pars, has seen 90 percent of progress in its development and we are doing our best to bring this phase online by the end of the current (Iranian) year (ends on March 20, 2014), Zanganeh told FNA in Assalouyeh, the onshore facilities of the South Pars Energy Zone.
"By launching phase 12, a sum of 80 million cubic meters of gas per day will be injected into the national grid," said the minister.
Zanganeh started a visit to the South Pars zone on Thursday to check the latest developments of the gas fields projects.
Assalouyeh is located some 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) south of Tehran.
Earlier this month, Managing-Director of Pars Oil and Gas Company Mohammad Reza Zahiri said final preparations are underway for Phase 12 of the massive offshore South Pars gas field to produce natural gas.
In continuation of pre-commissioning and commissioning steps for the biggest gas project in South Pars, the pre-start test review has begun in the offshore facilities [of Phase 12], Zahiri said.
He added that the equipment on Platform A of Phase 12 as well as the flow of gas in a 150-kilometer subsea pipeline are being tested.
Based on coordination with Iranian Gas Transmission Company, a specified volume of sweetened and refined gas will be delivered for final test of safety systems and offshore facilities and equipment from Phase 12, the official stated.
From the 24 phases of South Pars gas field, 10 phases are already operational and the remainder is under development.
Phase 12 of the South Pars is being developed for the final production of 84 mcm of sour gas from the massive offshore gas field. It is being developed by Irans Petropars Company.
It is the first refinery project whose offshore installations have been erected by Iranian engineers.
