A senior intelligence police officer has been assassinated in a terrorist attack in southern Iran.
According to The Iran Project, Mojtaba Shahidi, chief of intelligence police in Bandar Lengeh in Hormozgan province was targeted and killed on Saturday evening, media reports said.
An assailant approached the vehicle driven by Shahidi, who then stopped and exited the car. The attacker detonated an explosive device, resulting in a powerful explosion.
Shahidi sustained severe injuries to his head, face, neck, and chest, and later died in the hospital.
His companion, the deputy head of intelligence police in Bandar Lengeh, was injured in the attack. He is currently undergoing surgery for injuries to his head and face.
The assailant was killed in the explosion.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
