President-elect Rohani says Iran to expand neighborly relations

Irans President-elect Hassan Rohani says expanding relations with neighboring countries and strengthening regional ties are among the foreign policy priorities of the next Iranian administration.
In response to the congratulatory message of Omans King Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, Rohani said, Expanding ties with the neighboring countries and strengthening regional cooperation in order to maintain peace and provide the interests of the regional nations is one of the foreign policy priorities of Irans 11th administration.

In another message to Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Irans president-elect stressed the importance of friendly relations between Tehran and Singapore.

Expressing gratitude for being invited to take part in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit by Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev, Rohani described expanding regional cooperation as the priority of Irans foreign policy.

Irans president-elect said in a message to Jordans King Abdullah II that the next Iranian administration will attempt to expand its ties with all Muslim countries.

Rohani emerged victorious in the presidential election of June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout. The Iranian Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at over 72 percent.

In another message to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Rohani expressed hope that bilateral ties between Tehran and Kabul would increase through cooperation.

The Iranian president-elect currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in the Supreme National Security Council. Rohani is also a member of Irans Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He is also the director of the Expediency Councils Center for Strategic Research.
