Iraqi foreign ministry protests UAE ministers Shia militia comments

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a note of protest to the Emirati ambassador in Baghdad in response to remarks made by the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates on Shia militia.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) Speaking aftermeeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov inMoscow, Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said onFriday there was no difference betweenDaesh, the Nusra Front, and groups inSyria and Iraq backed byIran. Nahyan further listed Hezbollah, the Abbas Brigade inSyria, aswell asthe Badr Corps and the Popular Mobilization forces inIraq.
"The ministry states that withoutthe Popular Mobilisation; Daesh and Al-Qaeda would have engulfed the whole region," the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said inremarks published late onFriday.


Baghdad classified the Emirati diplomats statements as "a flagrant intervention intothe Iraqi affairs."
"The ministry reiterates that the Popular Mobilisation has come fromthe Iraqi components and was formed asan official body works withinthe umbrella ofthe government and underthe command ofthe Commander-in-Chief ofthe Iraqi armed forces [Prime Minister Haider Abadi]," the ministry stressed.


Earlier, Abadi himself condemned Nahyans remarks and noted the Popular Mobilizations role inanti-Daesh efforts.
