The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russias agreement with Iran simplifying visa requirements for tourists, businesspersons and other categories of travellers will take effect in two weeks.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russias agreement withIran simplifying visa requirements fortourists, businesspersons and other categories oftravellers will take effect intwo weeks, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday.
"An agreement betweenthe Government ofthe Russian Federation and the Government ofthe Islamic Republic ofIran onthe simplification ofmutual travels amongthe two countries individual categories ofcitizens, signed inTehran onNovember 23, 2015, comes intoforce onFebruary 6," the ministry said.
Participants inthe two countries scientific, cultural and artistic events, aswell asstudents and teachers, are included inthe simplified visa regime.
"This agreement will further strengthen Russian-Iranian relations inall areas ofmutual cooperation," the ministry stressed.
Iranian Ambassador toRussia Mehdi Sanaei suggested two weeks ago that Tehran may unilaterally cancel tourist visas forRussian citizens.
Morteza Rahmani Movahed, the tourism deputy ofIrans Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) told RIA Novosti the two countries could introduce a visa-free regime "within a week" if Russia agreed ona mutual political decision.
