Iran seeks Mideast stability, Muslims unity: Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Iran seeks to contribute to stability and development in the Middle East and reinforce unity and solidarity in the Islamic world.

Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Irans new ambassadors to Senegal, Thailand, the Philippines, Belgium, Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Sri Lanka and Malaysia in Tehran on Saturday.

He added that Irans top priority is to help solidarity and fraternity in the Islamic world and said Tehran attaches significance to the promotion of ties with Muslim countries.

He stressed the importance of making use of opportunities that will be created following the implementation of a nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and six world powers in July -known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) -to improve political, economic and cultural relations to serve national interests.

Rouhani said that Iran can achieve progress and sustainable development by bolstering economic, political, scientific and technological cooperation with other countries, adding that Iranian diplomats play a leading role in this regard.

The Iranian president further noted that the JCPOA has created an opportunity for increasing cooperation and understanding between Iran and other countries. He also said that the Islamic Republic is currently considered theflag-bearer of a genuinecampaign againstterrorism.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China managed to finalize the text of the JCPOA in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on July 14.

Under the JCPOA, limits are put on Irans nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all nuclear-related economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
