Iran reveals new torpedo-armed watercraft

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has revealed a torpedo-armed watercraft which can operate both on and under water.

Zolfaqar, the domestically-manufactured submersible watercraft, was shown for the first time at a public exhibition on Saturday, Fars news agency reported.

The watercraft is a 17-meter-long piece of military equipment which weighs about 22 tons. It has a speed of 40 knots (more than 70 kilometers) per hour on the sea surface.
The watercraft also has a four-meter-long torpedo which can target aircraft carriers, vessels weighing up to 200 tons, oil platforms as well as loading and unloading docks.
Iran has recently made major advances in its defense sector and achieved self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
