Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA - President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is to voluntarily implement additional protocol to the NPT and expects IAEA to verify accurate implementation of the additional protocol under JCPOA.
President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano.
Cooperation between Iran and IAEA is based on trust, international law and regulations of the UN nuclear agency carrying out professional duties, said President Rouhani.
President Rouhani described the activities of the IAEA as very significant and complicated in terms of technical, legal and political issues.
President Rouhani reaffirmed commitment to international peace and security.
'We seek restoration of peace, security, trust in the international community,' said President Rouhani.
'We would like the world public opinion to trust IAEA as this trust will give world people peace of mind,' said President Rouhani.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has established a broad based cooperation with IAEA from some 12 years ago and has always spared no efforts to act based on law, said President Rouhani.
'Our expectations from IAEA do not go beyond IAEA Safeguards Agreement.'
IAEA monitors Iran's peaceful nuclear activities to prevent any deviation from the civilian path and help world countries to take advantage of peaceful nuclear technology know-how.
Iran expects the body to successfully carry out its duties and grounds for expansion of relations and cooperation with other countries such as Iran.
From the perspective of religious belief and Iranian defense doctrine, Iran never seeks access to weapons of mass destruction, underlined President Rouhani.
'Fortunately, Iran's peaceful nuclear activities are of peaceful nature and were under supervision of IAEA. No diversion was reported so far,' he said.
Referring to good talks between Iran and G5+1, President Rouhani said IAEA will play a much more active role in implementing the deal.
IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano, for his part called the exchange of visits between the two sides as very significant adding that IAEA seeks to resolve remaining issues through negotiations.
Amano said that he was pleased with expansion of cooperation between Iran and IAEA mainly after presidency of President Hassan Rouhani and the nuclear deal struck by Iran and G5+1 and signing of the roadmap, Amano said IAEA seeks for transparency in implementing assigned duties in long run.
IAEA has adopted a step by step, regular and forward move to verify Iran's nuclear related program and will do its utmost to remain impartial in releasing reports about the realities on the ground.
IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning to confer with Iranian senior officials in a one-day tour.
