US exports to Iran up 60%

Official figures show US exports to Iran jumped by a whopping 60 percent in the first half of 2015.

Irans media have quoted figures released by the US Department of Commerce as showing that the value of US exports over the period reached a total of $140 million.

The value of exports for the corresponding period last year stood at $88 million.

Figures show the US made zero imports from Iran from January to June 2015, the Persian-language newspaper Abrar reported.

The US exported a total of $185 million to Iran in 2014 and $308 million in 2013. Imports from Iran were zero for 2014 and $2.2 million for 2013.

Figures of the Department of Commerce show the highest volume of exports to Iran over the past 10 years were made in 2008 when the country exported $683 million worth of goods to the Islamic Republic.

The highest volume of imports from Iran has been recorded for 2005 when Iran exported a sum of $174.5 million worth of goods to the States.

Previous reports in Irans media said the most important items that the country imported from the US were medical and food supplements, butter, wood paste, bull semen, prosthetic parts and plant seeds.
