U.N. nuclear agency seeks Iran deal, Parchin visit
U.N. nuclear inspectors hope to gain access to the Parchin military site during a visit to Iran this week as part of an investigation into suspected atom bomb research, the delegation leader said on Tuesday. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) aims to finalize a framework deal with Iran in Wednesday’s talks in Tehran that would enable it to resume its inquiry, IAEA Deputy Director General Herman Nackaerts said.
Iran sends monkeys to space during revolutionary festival
Iran will send monkeys into space next month as part of a plan to put humans into orbit, Hamid Fazeli, head of the country’s space agency said. “The monkeys that will be sent in a life capsule are for now in quarantine and are scheduled to be sent into space during the Fajr festival,” Fazeli said according to the Mehr state-run news agency, referring to the 10-day celebration leading up to the 34th anniversary of the Islamic revolution on Feb. 10.
Iran says it has no information on missing ex-FBI agent
Iran reiterated on Tuesday that it had no information about retired FBI agent Robert Levinson, who vanished nearly six years ago while on a trip to the Islamic republic. “We have announced that we do not have any information regarding the issue,” foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanaparast told reporters in his weekly briefing.

Iran: Leader’s ban of nuclear weapons binding
Iran says a religious decree issued by the country’s supreme leader banning nuclear weapons is binding for the Iranian government. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the West must understand the significance of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s fatwa for the Islamic Republic, and that the edict should end the debate over whether Tehran is pursuing nuclear weapons.
South Korea’s oil imports from Iran rise by almost 1/4: Report
Official data show that South Korea’s imports of Iranian crude have increased by almost a fourth compared to last year, despite the West’s unilateral embargoes against Iran’s oil and financial sectors, a report says.



American Mathematical Society honors Iranian math scientist Maryam Mirzakhani
Iranian math scientist Maryam Mirzakhani has received the 2013 biennial Satter Prize in mathematics presented by American Mathematical Society. The Satter Prize is dedicated to a woman to recognize and appreciate the winner’s mathematical accomplishments.
