Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi, May 20, IRNA � Secretary General of Iran�s National Commission for UNESCO Mohammad Reza Saeedabadi has said 64 cultural, historical and written heritages of Iran have been registered in UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Addressing the national conference on culture, national identity and tourism here, he said out of the figure 17 are outstanding cultural heritages such as Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Arg-e Bam, Bistoun and Chogha Zanbil Ziggurat.

Meanwhile, he added, in addition to tangible cultural heritages non-tangible cultural heritages such as customs, traditions, handicrafts, and local games are also registered in UNESCO as such 10 instances including Norouz, Kashan carpet weaving skill, and ceremony for launching vessels in the Persian Gulf.

He pointed to the registration of seven written cultural heritages as well as names of 30 poets and prominent cultural personalities such as Saadi, Hafez, Ferdowsai and Attar as other measures taken by UNESCO.

The official pointed to the organization�s efforts for the promulgation of peace in the world, adding that while follow up of peace talks among nations is the responsibility of the United Nations, UNESCO is concerned with mental and ideological peace.

Saeedabadi noted that sustainable development is impossible in the absence of economic growth and environmental issues where culture and identity has its specific position, therefore cultural isolation is not correct and should be avoided.

Stressing that today the call has increased for cultural products throughout the world, adding that production of cultural goods is not only effective in the public mind but will also earn revenues and provide job opportunities.
